C4DHI at the TWIN4DEM Datathon in Trento

Jiří Kocián, Klára Vedlichová and Klára Kosová from C4DHI and PRCP together with Christopher Brückner from the Institute of Formal and Applied Linguistics (ÚFAL) at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University, co-organized a datathon as part of the HORIZON TWIN4DEM project. The event took place from 8 to 10 September at the Fondazione Bruno Kessler (FBK) research institute in Trento, Italy.

During the visit, they worked with Marco Rovera and Camila Casula from FBK to link data on the Czech legislative process and to design an analytical pipeline to detect the expansion of executive powers. This represents a crucial step in creating a "digital twin"— a dynamic model of the Czech political system that the IMS team, led by Jiří Kocián, aims to develop within the TWIN4DEM project. The digital twin will subsequently be used to simulate various scenarios that democratic systems must navigate.

The complete, unique dataset—comprising thousands of digitized objects documenting the Czech legislative process—will be published in October alongside French, Hungarian, and Dutch datasets. They will be hosted in the data repository of the LINDAT/CLARIAH-CZ infrastructure, an open science service operated by ÚFAL MFF UK.
