In her new article, Associate Professor Maria Asavei examines the phenomenon of contemporary ethno-pop music in Romania

What characterizes the aesthetics of the religiously themed manele genre, and what social and political dimensions does it encompass? This is the focus of a new article, Religiously Themed Contemporary Ethno-Pop Manele Music Phenomenon in Romania: Empowerment Through Redemption, by Associate Professor Marie Asavei of the Department of Musicology and Visual Arts (KRVS).

Its aim is to provide an in-depth analysis of the genre of urban ethno-pop music, known as Christian manele, and the discourses surrounding it, thereby paving the way for further research into contemporary cultural and religious phenomena.
