Kateřina Vnoučková and Jakub Střelec have published books in the new series Transnational History

Kateřina Vnoučková and Jakub Střelec, graduates of the Modern History doctoral programme, published their works in early 2026 as part of the Transnational History series by Karolinum Press.

In her book Okno příležitosti: Životní prostředí a přeshraniční vztahy na březích Dyje 1984-1995 (Window of Opportunity: The Environment and Cross-Border Relations on the Banks of the Dyje River, 1984–1995) Kateřina Vnoučková focuses on the role of local actors in rural renewal and nature conservation in the regions of South Moravia and Lower Austria. She also highlights the situation prior to 1989 and the reasons why cooperation in the 1990s did not develop into a lasting partnership.

Jakub Střelec’s publication Od trestu k terapii: Forenzní psychiatrie v poválečné obnově Evropy (From Punishment to Therapy: Forensic Psychiatry in Postwar European Reconstruction) subsequently examines the approaches of psychiatrists and psychologists to violent behavior and crime in communist Czechoslovakia, West Germany, and the United Kingdom between 1945 and 1970. Through forensic expertise and psychiatric evaluations, he analyzes how wartime experiences, the mentality of the era, social status, and ethnicity were reflected in the assessment of behavior and the definition of the boundaries of criminal responsibility.

We warmly congratulate both of them!
