Tereza Juhászová received the Charles University Grant Agency President's Award

On the occasion of the Day of Struggle for Freedom and Democracy and International Students' Day, a ceremonial meeting was held in the Great Hall of Karolinum, where several awards were presented, including the Charles University Grant Agency (GA UK) awards for outstanding scientific achievements achieved with the targeted support of GA UK.

The GA UK President's Award went to Tereza Juhászová for her project Coexistence in a Small Town in Eastern Slovakia after World War II. The aim of the project was to analyze the mechanisms of coexistence in a post-conflict, linguistically mixed society living on the geographical periphery and thus contribute to understanding the functioning of small communities in a time of post-war reconciliation and political transformation. The microhistorical study specifically examined the small Slovak town of Medzev, whose inhabitants spoke German, Slovak, Hungarian, or Romani and faced persecution by the Czechoslovak authorities from 1945 onwards. The results showed that the local environment was not merely a passive recipient of political and social pressures, but actively worked with them, with political and interpersonal ties and the influence of specific actors playing a key role.
