Exploring Personal History: War, Violence, Occupation, and Post-Conflict Reconstruction in 20th and 21st Century Europe

Exploring Personal History: War, Violence, Occupation, and Post-Conflict Reconstruction in 20th and 21st Century Europe

Discuss new interdisciplinary approaches to the history of subjectivity, emotion, and intimacy and utilize them for an innovative, comparative analysis of personal histories related to war, occupation, and violence. – Compile relevant sources and evaluate Digital Humanities (DH) tools for their interpretation. – Organize a final conference presenting specific case studies and discussing the results of their comparison. – Develop joint projects, where our innovative research design and new methodological approaches will be applied and further explored. In this case, we foresee the preparation of a TANDEM project. In addition, we plan to launch the preparation of a larger joint project, which will be focused on topics we detect as crucial in the course of the proposed project. Thus, this proposal is primarily seen as a kick-off project, which builds on the already existing and dynamically developing collaboration between IMS and EHESS (see below). Moreover, it seeks to create the preconditions for subsequent, more profound, and longer-term research collaboration within one of the national (GAČR, ANR) or European (Horizon, ERC) research programs.
