Local libraries in the digital era as a tool for the integration of migrant children

Local libraries in the digital era as a tool for the integration of migrant children

Contemporary Czech society faces a number of dividing lines and challenges, to which ethnic diversity is increasingly being added. The most striking example is the capital city of Prague, where in some parts of the city the proportion of residents of migrant origin is very high (almost 20 per cent). In order to prevent ethnic diversity from causing further growth of intolerance and political radicalisation, every effort must be made to successfully integrate minorities into Czech society. Local libraries can play an important role here, especially in the case of the younger generation, which in the current digital era is coping with the loss of its traditional status. On the basis of a thorough analysis of the needs of migrant children and the possibilities of the libraries in question, the local branches of the Municipal Library in Prague will strengthen their "community" function and increase their integration potential.
