Workshop International Perspectives on Indigenous Transnational Experiences
Workshop International Perspectives on Indigenous Transnational Experiences
This workshop brought together a select group of scholars from across the globe whose work focuses on Indigenous transnational experiences, broadly conceived. Discussed topics included, among others, political diplomacy and activism, art and cultural revitalization, technologies, Native North America, but also experiences of Indigenous peoples from South Africa, Australia, Aotearoa (New Zealand), Oceania, and the Arctic. Our goal in situating this workshop in a global Indigenous context—both in terms of the scholarship and the scholars producing it— was to arrive at a more expansive view of how Indigenous peoples have always and continue to extend or go beyond national boundaries. Our emphasis on transnational experiences—as opposed to the more limited notion of Indigenous internationalism—endeavours to open a new field of study with unlimited possibilities and transformational potential.
