Invitation to Enroll: Seminar on Central and Eastern European History (JTD022, Fall 2025)
Are you interested in exploring cutting-edge research and debates in Central and Eastern European history while collaborating with graduate students from abroad? Join us for the Fall 2025 graduate seminar "Central and Eastern European History", co-taught by Prof. Ota Konrád and Prof. Chad Bryant (UNC-Chapel Hill), and offered in cooperation with the University of North Carolina through its Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) initiative.
This unique four-week online module will bring together students from Charles University and UNC-Chapel Hill. Students will participate in online discussions of selected books and articles, simulate the work of an academic article prize committee, and collaborate on a group project to develop a mock call for papers for an imagined academic conference.
The course focuses on critical themes in modern Central and Eastern European history and aims to foster meaningful transatlantic dialogue, academic networking, and a better understanding of scholarly practices across different institutional and national contexts.
The seminar is designed primarily for Ph.D. students in Modern history and Area studies at the Institute of International Studies (IMS) at Charles University. However, we also welcome applications from motivated master's students at IMS who are interested in academic research in this field and intend to pursue doctoral studies after completing their master's degree. If this applies to you, please contact Prof. Ota Konrád (ota.konrad@fsv.cuni.cz) before enrolling.
Course starts: October 14, 2025
Format: Hybrid (in-person introduction + online COIL sessions)
Language: English
