Keynote Lecture: Ioana Cîrstocea on the Genesis of Gender Studies in East Central Europe
As part of the CENTRAL Workshop: Mobility of People, Goods, and Ideas, we are pleased to invite you to a keynote lecture by Ioana Cîrstocea, senior researcher in Sociology at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). The lecture will take place on Friday, 14 March, from 12:30 to 13:45 at Charles University, Campus Jinonice (C321). Refreshments will be provided after the event.
Ioana Cîrstocea will present insights from her book Learning Gender after the Cold War: Contentious Feminisms (2022), exploring the emergence of gender studies in East Central Europe following the Cold War. Her research focuses on the liberalization of higher education, the social production of knowledge on (post-)socialism, and the transnational development of feminist thought. She is also co-editor (with Françoise Thébaud) of the special issue Le genre de la guerre froide in Clio. Femmes, Genre, Histoire (2023).
This keynote offers a unique opportunity to engage with critical debates on gender expertise and the transformation of academic disciplines in post-socialist societies. We encourage students and faculty with an interest in gender studies, sociology, and East Central European history to attend.
