SnS Talk: Shelter-Seeking Strategy of Sweden and Finland: From the Beginning of the Cold War to NATO Membership

We would like to cordially invite you to a Small (Nation-)States Research Centre Talk by leading scholar in small-state studies, Professor Baldur Thorhallsson, titled ‘Shelter-Seeking Strategy of Sweden and Finland: From the Beginning of the Cold War to NATO Membership’.

Baldur Þórhallsson is a Professor of Political Science and Jean Monnet Chair in European Studies at the University of Iceland. A leading scholar in small-state studies, he founded the Centre for Small State Studies at the University of Iceland and has extensively researched the role of small states in European and international affairs. He holds a BA from the University of Iceland and an MA and PhD in Political Science from the University of Essex. His academic contributions focus on European integration, foreign policy analysis, and the political economy of small states. Þórhallsson has held visiting positions at esteemed institutions, including Williams College and Queen Mary University of London, where he was a Leverhulme Visiting Professor. His work has significantly shaped scholarly debates on small states’ strategies in international relations, particularly within the European Union and Nordic political frameworks.
