Successful Dissertation Defense by PhDr. Ladislav Beneš

PhDr. Ladislav Beneš has successfully defended his dissertation, which examines the relations and material transfers between the Evangelical Church of Czech Brethren and the Evangelische Kirche in Deutschland during the Cold War period (1948–1989).

The dissertation highlights the permeability of the Iron Curtain through the lens of interchurch cooperation and explores the role of the Western partner in supporting a religious actor within the Eastern Bloc. A significant part of the research is also devoted to analyzing the complex negotiations between the church and the state-socialist regime, characterized by its official commitment to atheism.
