Austria had a special position in the Cold War, based on its neutrality. Among other things, there was an institutionalization of discourse between researchers from East and West, for example in the form of the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (das Internationale Institut für Angewandte Systemanalyse) or the Institute of Human Sciences (das Institut für die Wissenschaften vom Menschen).

The project will focus on the way in which conflicting political and economic concepts have been transferred to these institutions since the 1970s and will answer the question of the implications of professional exchanges of views on government decision-making during the Cold War and economic developments in the East and West until the 1990s. years of the 20th century.
