Czech-German Studies

INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS ON THE CZECH-GERMAN STUDY PROGRAMME

Czech-German Studies are a binary interdisciplinary Bachelor's degree programme, anchored in the cultural and social sciences, which are offered by Charles University in cooperation with the University of Regensburg. An integral part of the study is a two-semester study abroad stay at the University of Regensburg. A part of the study is also a three-month practice, which can also be done abroad. After finishing this practice, the programme graduates will receive a diploma from both universities (the so-called double degree).

TEMPLATES, FORMS AND OTHER STUDY GUIDELINES

When and how do I go to Regensburg?

The study program assumes a one-year trip to the University of Regensburg (UR). The student chooses whether to go to UR during his second or third year of study. The student informs the guarantor of the program in February of the previous trip about the intention to go to UR in the coming academic year. (At this time, it is possible to apply for an ERASMUS scholarship. Registration is done through standard faculty-wide channels and follows the instructions of the dean's office.)

The list of students leaving for UR will be handed over by the program guarantor to the coordinator at Bohemica UR, who will instruct students further on the issue of enrollment in the study at UR and the issue of accommodation.

What to do after the return from abroad?

Immediately after returning from the study stay, it is necessary to submit a completed Protocol on the fulfillment of study obligations. For compulsory and optional subjects completed within the modules, it is necessary to enter codes and credits according to Karolinka. For other subjects that fall into the category of electives, it is necessary to add, in addition to German, also the English and Czech name of the course. The recognized credit rating corresponds to UR. Grades must be recalculated based on the conversion table (see below).

Bachelor and Homework thesis

Students attend a bachelor's seminar for Czech-German studies either in the second year if they plan to go to UR in the third year, or in the third year if they went to UR in the second year. They enter the seminar without a topic and all steps leading to the selection of the topic and finding the thesis supervisor are taken within the seminar. At the end of the first semester of the bachelor's seminar for Czech-German studies, students submit a bachelor's thesis project. At the end of the second semester, students submit either a 20-page "pre-bachelor's thesis" or a completed bachelor's thesis.

The students choose the topics of homework (Hausarbeit) and submit proposals for topics and inclusion in the modules to the program guarantor for approval according to the instructions in the director's decree. The bachelor's thesis and homework must each be integrated into a different module. The homework has a designated consultant from IMS, who is available to the student mainly in formal questions. The topic should be processed by the student independently.

State final exam

The state final examination consists of 4 parts:

>Bachelor thesis defenses
>3x defenses called Hausarbeit.

The whole test takes 45-55 minutes. During each defense, the student presents his / her work, deals with assessments (with Bc. Work with two, with so-called Hausarbeit with one) and answers the commission's questions. It always starts with the defense of the bachelor's thesis, the order of other theses can usually be chosen by the student.

The dates for the state final examinations are governed by the Schedule of the FSV UK academic year, and there are three regular examination dates in each academic year: in January, June and September. The deadlines for the submission of completed theses and the application for the final state examination are also set out in the Schedule of the Academic Year.
