Tereza then had a job at the Global Forum on Cyber Expertise in The Hague for three years, where she was in charge of building activities in regions in Africa, America and the Caribbean, Southeast Asia and the Pacific island states. She then returned to the DiploFoundation as the director of partnerships.

Markéta Brüstlová

(UNESCO, Paris)

brustlova

The big political changes in the 1980s and 1990s inspired me to study international relations and social sciences, a choice I have never regretted. I chose Charles University for its solid reputation, excellent tutors, and strong connections with relevant networks. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2002, a Master’s in 2004, and a PhD in 2012. After my studies, I started working for UNESCO, the United Nations’ Organisation for Education, Science and Culture, beginning with an internship in 2005. I worked consecutively on strategic planning, resource mobilization, and cultural policies. In recent years, I have advised the Director-General on cultural matters and on governance. Today, I am with my two feet in the governance, maintaining relations with our Member States and assuring the good functioning of the Organisation. Just like the UN as a whole, UNESCO is in the midst of new political shifts, but I am confident that the world needs Organizations where politicians, scientists and the community can meet, discuss and make joint agreements from a long-term perspective.

Alongside my UNESCO work, I have also enjoyed teaching, notably at the American Graduate School in Paris, INSEEC, and Sciences Po Dijon between 2013 and 2023. The teachers who inspired me most when I was studying at Charles University were also practitioners - sharing their expertise and placing it in a wider context. The latter has turned out to be very useful when working at an Intergovernmental Organisation, where compromise and intercultural dialogue rule.
