Call for papers! Special Issue Memory Studies: Memory and Resilience
Following the MSA Prague 2025 Conference we invite all Prague participants and all current Memory Studies Association members to contribute to the Special Issue Memory Studies: Memory and Resilience, which will be co-edited by Maria Alina Asavei, Kateřina Králová, and Juliane Tomann.
The deadline (for proposals) is Dec 15, 2025.
500-word proposals from MSA Prague 2025 participants and all current MSA members are welcomed.
The topic is memory and resilience. The issue will examine how memories of past crises—exile, floods, repression, displacement, financial collapse, the pandemic—shape how people and communities respond to new threats. It also asks: Can memory strengthen our resilience? Or can purposeful forgetting also help individuals and communities cope? How do these acts of remembering and forgetting work together to restore stability, rebuild lives, and sustain a sense of shared humanity?
Both theoretical contributions and extensive empirical studies are welcome, especially case studies from different parts of the world that help capture the diverse forms of memory work related to challenges as varied as ecological disasters and threats to cultural survival.
