Jan Marian: Ukraine is also fighting for our security. As Czechs, we must continue to support it
In what ways can the Czech Republic now help Ukraine? How do Czechs resist Russian disinformation campaigns? And how to start a career as a diplomat?
Jan Marian, a career diplomat who graduated from the Institute of International Studies at the Charles University and is professionally interested in Eastern Europe and Russia, has accepted an invitation to the next episode of the De Facto podcast . In the past, he worked, among others, at the Czech Embassy in Moscow and as a Special Representative of the Minister for the Eastern Partnership. Since 2023 he has been Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
"The Russian regime as such does not want peace. Maybe it wants a ceasefire or a pause to buy time and replenish its forces. But in principle, Russia's goals have not changed. The ideal Russian goal is the destruction of an independent Ukraine. So we have to talk about what to do next. The Czechs, Europe, the allies, we should continue what we are already doing. That means arms supplies, mutual cooperation in a number of areas, and support for Ukrainian reforms and integration into the European Union and, in the future, NATO," Jan Marian says in the podcast.
