Jiří Kocián on Fulbright Scholarship at Rutgers University

Dr. Jiří Kocián, Deputy Head of the Department of Russian and East European Studies, Head of the Center for the Integration of Digital Humanities and Senior Coordinator of the Malach Center, is currently working at Rutgers University in the USA on a Fulbright Scholarship.

Jiří Kocián's research focuses on democratic transitions, populism, democratic decline in Central and Southeastern Europe, transnational history and (in)national identities. He also focuses on Jewish and Holocaust history, with a particular focus on oral history, and the use of digital humanities methods in the humanities and social sciences.

He and his colleagues recently established an interdisciplinary certificate program in digital humanities. In recent years, he has been involved in several international research projects, including EC HORIZONS MEMORISE, TWIN4DEM, POPREBEL, DEMOS, and other research on anti-Semitism and the use of historical events in foreign policy.

Jiří Kocián's tenure at Rutgers University brings new perspectives to the academic space and strengthens the ties between IMS and the international academic community.
