Prof. Marek Wilczyński

Prof. Marek Wilczyński

It is with great sadness that we have received the sad news of the death of Prof. Marek Wilczyński, co-founder of the German and Central European Studies programme organised at the University of Krakow and the Institute of International Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences. On behalf of the entire Institute, we would like to express our sincere condolences to all the bereaved for the loss of a loved one.

Marek Wilczyński, a professor at the Pedagogical University in Krakow and an expert in the history of Late Antiquity and the Old Germans, died on September 3, 2023, at the age of 63. He was associated with our Institute mainly through his cooperation in the double-degree MA program "German and Central European Studies," of which he was one of the founders. Students of German and Central European Studies remember Prof. Wilczyński as an open-minded teacher, an erudite and passionate guide to the history of Poland and Krakow. Those of us who worked with him on the founding of the program will remember him not only as a competent colleague but also as an extraordinary person who was always a pleasure to meet, even outside of purely professional duties.
