Zuzana Lizcová Published in the Prestigious Journal German Politics

We are pleased to announce that Zuzana Lizcová from the Department of German and Austrian Studies at IMS FSV UK is a co-author of a scholarly article recently published in the renowned journal German Politics.

The article, titled "Shaping Bilateral Relationships From Below: Civil Society Actors and Their Motivations in the Czech-German Context", was written in collaboration with Jana Urbanovská (Masaryk University) and Karel B. Müller (CEVRO Institute). It offers a unique insight into the motivations of civil society actors involved in Czech-German cross-border cooperation.

The authors draw on extensive research carried out in 2022–2023 for the Czech-German Future Fund. Their main focus lies on understanding the motivations of NGO representatives active in the field of Czech-German relations. Based on 45 interviews with 51 respondents, the study shows that the primary motivation behind these initiatives is to foster personal relationships and deepen mutual understanding. Broader democratic or professional goals appear to be of secondary importance.

The article contributes to a better understanding of Czech-German relations and provides valuable perspectives for the future development of cross-border cooperation within the EU.
