German and Central European Studies

INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS ON THE GERMAN AND CENTRAL EUROPEAN STUDIES PROGRAMME

About the programme:

The studies have a multidisciplinary focus with an emphasis on politics and international relations, modern and contemporary history, culture, society and economy of German-speaking countries (especially Germany and Austria), and Central European countries (especially the Czech Republic and Poland) and on their place in Europe and the world. The studies particularly focus on relations and comparisons with the Czech Republic and Poland and the history of the Germans in the Czech lands, Poland and the regions where nationality was subject to change.

German and Central European Studies are offered as a dual degree programme in cooperation with the Uniwerzytet Pedagogiczny w Krakowie university. Emphasis is placed on a deeper understanding of the field of study and a wider choice of optional courses for the students. These are offered by our sister departments of North American, Russian and Eastern European Studies.
