German and Central European Studies
General Information
The studies have a multidisciplinary focus, with an emphasis on politics and international relations, modern and contemporary history, and the culture, society, and economy of German-speaking countries (especially Germany and Austria), and Central European countries (especially the Czech Republic and Poland), and on their place in Europe and the world. The studies particularly focus on relations and comparisons with the Czech Republic and Poland, and on the history of the Germans in the Czech lands, Poland, and the regions where nationality was subject to change.
German and Central European Studies are offered as a dual degree programme in cooperation with the Uniwersytet Komisji Edukacji Narodowej w Krakowie (UKEN). Emphasis is placed on a deeper understanding of the field of study and on a broader selection of optional courses for students. These are offered by our sister departments of North American, Russian and Eastern European Studies.
