Inter-Governmental Agreements
The Czech Republic has Inter-Governmental Agreements with some countries, which are under the responsibility of the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports of the Czech Republic (MŠMT ČR). The study stays are then mediated by the Academy Information Agency of MŠMT ČR (AIA MŠMT ČR) and are offered only to Czech citizens. Other conditions, numbers, possible sectoral restrictions vary from country to country.
Any FSV science-teaching staff (including non-EU citizens) can participate in the stay under the Inter-Governmental Agreements.
The offer of scholarships is not specified for specific universities abroad. It is understood that candidates will look themselves up for contacts of interest. It is recommended that at the time of applying, applicants should already have established contact with their place of work/study abroad.
Scholarship stays are filled by:
- quota breakdown (Charles University is awarded certain numbers of scholarships, the selection is done directly by Charles University)
- selection procedure (scholarships are for all universities in the Czech Republic, the selection procedure takes place at AIA – the Dům zahraničních služeb).
Quota Breakdown
The quota breakdown is performed annually by the Ministry of Education, which allocates the number of places to individual universities in the Czech Republic. The number of posts allocated varies from year to year. The posts offered to Charles University via the quota breakdown are filled following a selection procedure organized by the RUK. First, however, applicants hand over the required documents to FSV UK's International Office, which then forwards the documentation to the RUK.
Detailed information on the current quota breakdown can be found on the faculty website (in Czech only).
Selection procedure
The selection procedure is administered annually by the Academic Information Agency, which is under the Dům zahraničních služeb. Scholarship places are available to science-teaching staff of all public universities. The collection of applications and the selection procedure are organized directly by the AIA or the relevant embassy. The applicant submits the application with all the necessary documents by specific dates in person at the headquarters of AIA (Dům zahraničních služeb, AIA, Na Poříčí 1035/4, 110 00 Praha 1). The application must be validated by FSV UK (arranged by FSV UK's International Office).
The exact specifications for each stay, application documents, and other details are available on the AIA website.
Reimbursement of travel expenses
Scientific-teaching staff nominated for stays abroad under inter-governmental agreements (both quota breakdown and selection procedure) are in most cases entitled to reimbursement of travel costs.
Transport costs are reimbursed by MŠMT through universities. Travel costs are reimbursed in the form of a refund once every six months of the calendar year. The nominated applicant must submit a refund application to the FSV UK's International Office, together with any other necessary documents (in Czech only), no later than 10 working days after the arrival back home from their stay abroad.
Entitlement to reimbursement of travel is not allowed for all types of inter-government contracts. Where a specific offer published on the website of the Academic Information Agency is accompanied by the comment "MŠMT does not cover travel fees" this means that the applicant cannot actually apply for reimbursement through FSV UK's International Office. Neither Charles University nor FSV currently have any own financial resources from which to reimburse travel costs in these cases.
