  • DAAD scholarship offers for Düsseldorf in the winter semester 2026/2027

    The Department of German and Austrian Studies is offering semester scholarships for master's students to Düsseldorf for the 2026/2027 winter semester. These are above-standard stays in the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia at the partner university KNRS.

    Dr. Valeriya Korablyova from KRVS has been very active in international academic cooperation recently. First, she participated in the Invisible University for Ukraine winter school at Central European University and then achieved success in the SPEED4EU+ grant competition.

    Slavomír Horák completed a short-term academic stay at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty, where he gave several lectures and also became a foreign consultant for the dissertation Establishment of Statehood from the Kazakh ASSR to the Kazakh SSR. 1924-1937.

    The Commission for the Allocation of Starter Apartments has set a deadline for submitting applications for the allocation of starter apartments for young academics and researchers working at Charles University. Specifically, these are apartments No. 1442 and No. 1440, located in the Krystal Center building at José Martího 2/407 in Prague 6, with a layout of 2+kk, and are ready to move into from May 1, 2026.
  • Klára Kosová has defended her dissertation at Rijksuniversiteit Groningen

    We warmly congratulate Klára Kosová, who successfully defended her dissertation Governance legitimacy in the oligarchized settings: the case of Bulgaria on Thursday, February 19. The thesis, supervised by Prof. Pablo Valdivia Martin, Dr. Lisa Gaufman, and Doc. Adrian Briska, examines how political legitimacy is constructed in contemporary democracies and analyzes the state of the Bulgarian socio-political situation during the protests in 2020 and 2021.

  • SIMS

    SIMS is an informal association of the IMS students. Its task is to solve students' problems, so as to bridge the imaginary gap between them and the instructors. Another activity of the SIMS is to organize traditional social and educational events for (not only) the IMS students. These events include, for example Welcome Party, Christmas Part, Karaoke Party, lectures on current topics or an Orientation Week for the first years of the Bachelor's degree studies.

  • Alumni

    The Institute values its graduates and likes to meet them at the traditional reunion in Grébovka. This year's reunion took place on 28 May 2024 in the restaurant Pavilion Grébovka in Havlíčkovy sady. At the meeting we celebrated together the significant 30th anniversary of our institute. The graduates were welcomed by the director of the institute, doc. Tomáš Nigrin. The event was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský.
