GACR - UNDER THE PRESSURE OF INTERNATIONALIZATION AND SECURITIZATION: CHANGES IN THE SECURITY POLICY OF EUROPEAN STATES

The project aims to explore how international pressures and securitization processes interact in the internal political debate of European states and how the resulting policy mismatch affects them. Using methods of discourse analysis and process monitoring, it compares the behavior of large and small NATO and the EU Member States in the areas of defense capabilities, cybersecurity and the fight against terrorism. Research tests the thesis that large states are able to shape international discourse according to their domestic requirements or ignore international pressure, while the security policy of small states is changing as a result of international obligations, but there is a mismatch between security policy practice and its domestic image.

The output of the project will be four peer-reviewed articles and a monography. The project is led by doc. Tomáš Weiss and Lucie Kadlecová, dr. Ondřej Ditrych (IPS FSV UK) and Martin Michelot (EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy).
