From a chronological point of view, it follows events from the 19th century up to the present time with an emphasis on the period after 1945, thematically focusing on politics, economy, culture, society and international relations.

WHY STUDY THE AREA STUDIES PROGRAMME?

1. Study in foreign languages

Students of this study programme have the opportunity to complete a wide range of foreign language courses, especially in English, German and French, given both by our lecturers and also thanks to the annual presence of foreign lecturers from prestigious European and non-European universities. Another option which extends the foreign language offer even beyond the mentioned languages are study abroad stays.

2. Study abroad stays

All students have the possibility to go abroad for study abroad stays or work placements in Europe and outside Europe. Erasmus stays are the most frequent forms of study abroad stays, but there are also a number of inter-university and inter-faculty agreements and scholarship offers which make it nowadays possible for study abroad to take place in virtually all countries in the world, including destinations such as Australia, New Zealand, Chile or South Korea. The Faculty of Social Sciences or even the University itself also contribute to the most cost demanding study abroad stays in the form of a scholarship.

3. Lecturers

Tuition is provided by a generationally balanced team of professionals who teach subjects based both on their own and long-term research and publications, thus they know what they are talking about. In addition to a highly professional background, the lecturers are, last but not least here to provide students with the necessary assistance and aid and to guide them in their studies until they successfully finish them.

4. Friendly study environment and social activities

The aim of the Institute is for students to acquire not only academic expertise, but also good general working habits and a positive attitude towards teamwork. Thanks to both the lecturers and the student self-government, which is an important partner in the workplace management, the IMS represents a place for good life-long relationships, which are formed not only during academic work itself but also through a wide variety of social activities. These include not only traditional parties, but also trips and excursions at home and abroad. Apart from that, the relationships are also fostered by participation in joint events organized both within and outside the workplace during the school year and during holidays, and even after graduation, thanks to graduates who maintain lasting relationships with IMS.

 5. New skills and knowledge

As a graduate of the Bachelor's degree programme at IMS you will not only be endowed with new knowledge and skills centered around the ability to think critically and present topics that will be explored during your next personal and professional development. Thanks to your studies, you will also gain a significant degree of cultural and social competence that you can apply either at home or abroad, or in good working positions.

WHAT WILL I DO AFTER MY STUDIES?

The career opportunities are very wide. On the one hand, it is to be noted that around 70-80% of the IMS graduates continue to study at a Master's degree level, only a minor part leave to start working. In the first instance, IMS graduates do not have problems of getting admitted to any high-quality Master's degree programme, not only at home, but more and more frequently also abroad.
