Admissions

We welcome applicants with a good command of written and spoken English (a non-native speaker applicant has to include a copy of an internationally recognized certificate in English) who have a keen interest in the fields of area studies and modern history, Central Europe, and Czech language. The admissions committee will assess the applications on the basis of submitted documents and award points (1-100) in the following categories: academic background, motivation, extra-curricular activities. The point limit for accepting applicants is set by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University.

A pre-condition for being accepted is the completion of secondary education confirmed by a school-leaving certificate.

The following documents must be provided:

  • online application;
  • copy of a diploma to show completed secondary studies, or confirmation of ongoing secondary studies in the academic year that those studies will be completed;
  • transcript of marks from previous studies;

  • motivation letter;
  • document showing the level achieved in the English language;
  • letter of recommendation.

Application submission deadlines extended

You can apply to HAS until 31 August 2025.

Applications fully submitted by 30 June 2025 will already be evaluated in July.

Important note for visa-seeking students: Please read about the visa process carefully before applying. You are responsible for organizing your legal stay in Czechia, and the visa application process can be quite lengthy. We cannot guarantee that you will be able to obtain the visa in time, as the June and August deadlines are fairly close to the start of the academic year on 29 September 2025. Therefore, the extended deadlines are strongly recommended for students who already possess the legal right to long-term stay in Czechia.
