doc. PhDr. Michal Smetana, Ph.D.

Docent Michal Smetana je výzkumný pracovník a pedagog na Institutu mezinárodních studií FSV UK, ředitel univerzitního výzkumného centra excelence Peace Research Center Prague (PRCP), vedoucí Experimental Lab for International Security Studies (ELISS) a hlavní řešitel prestižního projektu Evropské výzkumné rady (ERC). Titul Ph.D. získal na Univerzitě Karlově v oboru mezinárodních vztahů a habilitační zkoušku složil na Masarykově univerzitě v oboru politických věd. Dříve rovněž působil jako výzkumník na Oxfordské univerzitě, Stanfordově univerzitě v Kalifornii, Stockholmském institutu pro výzkum míru (SIPRI) a Frankfurtském institutu pro výzkum míru (PRIF). Je nositelem prestižní vědecké ceny Neuron v oblasti sociálních věd za rok 2025.

Ve svém výzkumu a výuce se zabývá tématy propojujícími bezpečnostní studia, mezinárodní vztahy a politickou psychologii, s důrazem na problematiku NATO a vojenských aliancí, jaderné zbraně, kontrolu zbrojení a odzbrojení, teorii odstrašování, mezinárodní normy a experimentální metody v sociálních vědách.
