Short Biography - Elmira Muratova
Elmira Muratova is a Senior Lecturer of Political Science at Taurida National University (Crimean Federal University) of Simferopol. She holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from Taurida National University (2005). Her major research topics include Crimean Tatars, ethnic and religious relations and conflicts in Crimea; history and nowadays development of Islam in Crimea.
Elmira Muratova has been holding a number of international fellowships. She has been Visiting Fellow at University of Kansas (Fulbright Faculty Development Program, 2005-2006), at University College London (Erasmus Fellowship, 2007-2008), at Humboldt University in Berlin (DAAD Program, 2011). In 2009-2014 she provided policy analysis and consultations to the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities.
She writes on various topics of Islamic development in Crimea, Ukraine and Russia. Her monograph “Islam in Contemporary Crimea: Indicators and Problems of the Process of Revival” was published in 2008. In 2010-2014 she was a co-author of the Yearbook of Muslims in Europe. Her last publications devoted to various issues of ethnic and religious developments among the Crimean Tatars after 2014 annexation of Crimea.
