Malé (národní) státy v/vně říší a unií [SnS]

Současná středovýchodní, severovýchodní a jihovýchodní Evropa spolu s Kavkazem se skládají převážně z malých (národních) států, které vznikly v polovině 19. století jako samostatné entity v rámci větších říší a unií nebo mimo ně. Na základě Hrochova pojetí malých národů jako strukturálně neúplných a novějších chápání malých států jako mezinárodně uznávaných „přijímačů pravidel“, včetně diskursivních projevů malosti, výzkumné centrum Small (Nation-)States zkoumá a analyzuje, jak tyto politické systémy – a aktéři v nich – čelily geopolitickým, ekonomickým a kulturním výzvám ve třech obdobích: pozdní imperiální éře, meziválečném období a desetiletích studené války. Nakonec si klade otázku, zda jejich strategie, nebo jejich absence, odhalují trvalé vzorce odolnosti nebo závislosti malých států, které jsou formovány spornými národními a etnickými narativy.
